Well, it is no different with myself.

Engaging with the business community, getting involved with business forums, think-tanks and networking groups as well providing insight to media organisations helps me to grow and provide the best possible advice to my clients. Some examples of important business community engagement activities.

The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) is a membership organisation for smaller UK businesses and provides support, advice, online resources, financial expertise and many other benefits plus is a powerful voice which is heard by government. The FSB’s mission is to help smaller businesses achieve their aims.

Currently my role is the English Policy Unit representative for the South Central regions including Bucks, Berks, Oxon, Hants, West Surrey and the Isle of Wight. Participating in discussing issues that affect small businesses and helping to provide case studies that can be used by National Policy when talking to government, and local government.
The Milton Keynes Business Council is a group of local business leaders including representatives from the various business support and membership organisations in Milton Keynes who meet and collaborate on behalf of the wider Milton Keynes business community. We lobby on their behalf with Milton Keynes Council, respond to consultation documents on a wide range of topics that can or do affect the business community including infrastructure projects, economic development, skills, and expansion plans for the region.

I have been the Federation of Small Businesses representative on the Business Council for a number of years and have been Chair for the last 3 years.
Similar to the FSB, Buckingham Business First's (BBF) aim is to make Buckinghamshire the best place in Britain to start, run and grow a business. With online business resources, business builder events and membership benefits to help new and existing Buckinghamshire businesses flourish.

I have been a member of BBF for 10 years and serve on the board as a non-executive director.

Why this is important

Not only does extensive engagement with the local business community help me to develop my skills it also provides me with a fantastic insight into local projects and initiatives which could be of interest to my clients. Coaching and mentoring is at the heart of my business but attaching this to real life opportunities, ideas and contacts can accelerate your growth and development.
